The EFLS provides all its members with tools for promoting local solidarities and "better living together".
Neighbours' Day was created in 1999 in one of the districts of Paris. In 2009, Neighbours' Day gathered together 9 million people in more than 1100 cities in 29 different countries. It is the number one citizen event in Europe. www.european-neighbours-day.eu

Neighbours Together, launched byt the creators of Neighbours' Day, is a national mobilization operation aiming at strengthening local solidarities and developing an exchange of little services and mutual aid between neighbours in order to ease the daily life. This concept of solidarity is based on social operations which will help each of us to act out. www.voisinssolidaires.fr

H1N1 influenza pandemic could have consequences on the daily lives of our local population. Who will look after my son if his school closes? Who will look after my elderly neighbour if her home helper is ill or if public transport is distrupted? Who will fetch my medicine or go grocery shopping for me if I am bed-ridden?
These are the kinds of problems that are likely to develop everywhere in Europe and cause an explosion in the number of requests which will be difficult for the institutions to deal with.
That is the reason why, in complement to national contingency plans to confront H1N1, we developed the "pandemic kit", a tool for mobilizing residents and reinforcing local solidarity.
Thie operation has been designed by the association "Neighbours Together", a member of EFLS, and it is supported by the French Ministry of Health. Several city councils and housing organizations are already using it.
